COMMUNITY SUPPORT

Metro Recycling recognizes the importance that non-profit organizations have in our communities. For this reason, Metro supports these local organizations in a variety of ways.

Opportunity Enterprises

Opportunity Enterprises, or OE, began in 1967. OE started with ten children in the tiny basement of a Valparaiso church. Since then OE has grown into an organization that changes the lives of thousands of individuals with disabilities throughout Northwest Indiana. Metro Recycling recognizes the importance of an organization such as OE in the Valparaiso community. We are proud to support OE and anyone wishing to drop off their paper may do so at Metro Recycling in Valparaiso on behalf of OE. Donations will be given to OE and their Secure Shred company. Customers may also donate any or all of their metal proceeds to help support Opportunity Enterprises. For more information about OE and their mission visit www.oppent.org.

Boys & Girls Club

Boys & Girls Clubs of America had its beginnings in 1860 in Hartford, Connecticut. Believing that boys who roamed the streets should have a positive alternative, founders organized the first Club. With character development as the cornerstone of the experience, the Club focused on capturing boys' interests, improving their behavior, and increasing their personal expectations and goals. Today, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America aims to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

Metro Recycling Scholarship Program

We recognize that the communities in which we operate are a key factor in our success and we feel compelled to give back to express our appreciation. In this spirit of giving back, we have set up a Metro Recycling Scholarship which is awarded to three students from Blue Island, Griffith, and Valparaiso High Schools each year.

United Way

United Way advances the common good by creating opportunities for all. United Way's focus is on education, income and health—the building blocks for a good quality of life and a strong community. Every day, our volunteers, donors and advocates are making a lasting difference in so many ways. That can mean helping a child learn to read, donating money to make sure people have access to quality medical care, speaking out in support of policies that provide training for in-demand jobs and so much more.
